cinema

 

sitting in the theatre
dark
anticipation
excitement mounts
previews 
then the film

the sound begins to surround 
drawing me in
the story starts to take shape
seeping through my skin
becoming a part of me

the outside world fades away 
I am able to lose myself to the story
become the landscape
become the characters
become a part of the story being told

in a theatre filled with others
yet independent in my interpretation too
together, but alone
the best, really
a shared experience  

in the moment
in the present
completely
wholly
rare

allowing myself to feel where the film goes
allowing myself the freedom to linger in that world
allowing myself the emotions
allowing myself the vulnerability
allowing myself the ability to see the vision of the filmmakers
while interpreting it for myself too
allowing myself this singular experience
to be really free.
