visiting
a part of the country
I lived in
ages ago
a life before
feels like yesterday

it's a home in a way
memories flood
senses awakened
surrounded by love
a part of my history
formative
still

walking to get coffee
spring
a brisk morning
with the sun
extending its warmth
promising its light
to the day

the flowers
that bloom here
more wild
free-spirited
less manicured
feels more like me

grape hyacinths
tulips
daffodils of many varieties
popping up
bringing hope
a vivid contrast
to winter

kids racing to school
black squirrels
running up trees
their playground
a bunny
hopping
from lawn
to lawn
its urban home

the city
its heartbeat
more guarded
its people
less open
to each other
more insular

this allows
its visitors
to observe
take in
bear witness
to the world
that surrounds
and makes
connections
more deliberate
the exception
versus
the rule

where spring
has blended into
summer elsewhere
here
it is still at its peak
revisiting the season
once again
revisiting my old home
a gift
a gift
indeed
